Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising movie has officially been delayed to Winter 2025, citing production issues as the reason. It was originally scheduled for Winter 2024. Studio SHAFT is animating, with Yukihito Miyamoto as the director. The movie was announced in April 2021, and is a direct the sequel to the Rebellion movie (2013).
Part of the official statement reads: “We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been looking forward to the release of this movie . We will continue working hard to deliver a better product, and we kindly ask for your understanding.”
Akiyuki Shinbo is serving as the chief director, with Gen Urobuchi of Nitroplus in charge of the script. Ume Aoki (aokiume) is again credited as the original character designer, Junichiro Taniguchi as the chief animation director, and Yuki Kajiura is composing the music.
The main cast from the Puella Magi Madoka Magica TV anime is also returning for Walpurgisnacht – Rising movie, and it includes:

- Chiwa Saito as Homura Akemi
- Kaori Mizuhashi as Mami Tomoe
- Eri Kitamura as Sayaka Miki
- Ai Nonaka as Kyoko Sakura

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an original anime project created by the Magica Quartet (Akiyuki Shinbo, Ume Aoki, Gen Urobuchi, and producer Atsuhiro Iwakami). The anime premiered in January 2011 and ran until April of the same year.
The series spawned multiple manga series (adaptations and spin-offs), a novel by Nitroplus, a dedicated magazine, and several video games. Two recap movies were released in October of 2012. They were followed by a third movie, titled Rebellion, in October 2013. The movie featured a new original story and was the prequel to Walpurgisnacht.
The Magia Record spin-off story got an anime adaptation by studio SHAFT) and a mobile game. The anime ended in April 2022, while the game ended its service on July 31, 2024. The Magia Exedra game is set to release this year.
